MOJO: New Scoop

In partial fulfillment for Broadcasting Principles and Practices, my group and I created a MOJO (Mobile Journalism) tackling democracy under threat, COVID vaccination advocacy, voter education, media literacy campaign, and community pantry.

Creating a 10-minute newscast is difficult. Our group’s news channel is called New Scoop. We covered topics regarding democracy under threat, COVID vaccine advocacy, voter education media literacy campaigns, and community pantry as a local issue. Most of our reports covered nationally. When it came to compiling the videos, there were difficulties in designing the animations for the newscast. The video and the qualities of individual members differed. On the day that we were supposed to turn in the task, a member had to back out of editing the last portion, the closing billboard. All we needed was 15 seconds. But the electricity in their area had to get cut. We had to do what we had to do. Hopefully, we were able to post the newscast before 11:59 p.m. on the video platform. However, Medium limited the number of stories we could publish in a day. Unfortunately, I was not able to link the blog to our classroom’s stream comment section on time.

New Scoop is my first ever complete newscast task with a group. It was an incredible learning experience. Compared to how I was before, I can now write news broadcast scripts for a few hours less. Editing, however, takes my soul out of my body a few times similar to a roller coaster. I realized I need to invest more time in learning technical skills for multiple software that can help improve my editing skills.
